The band will perform on the first day, becoming the first Brazilian band to play the iconic German festival four times.
Torture Squad, one of the most renowned Brazilian metal bands, returns to Wacken Open Air, the world’s largest heavy metal festival – held every summer near Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
The band will perform on Wednesday, July 30th, making Torture Squad the only Brazilian band to play the festival four times. The band performed in 2007, as winners of the Metal Battle, with the ‘Chaos Corporation Tour,’ in 2008 with the ‘Hellbound Tour,’ in 2011 with the ‘Aequilibrium Tour,’ and is now leading the ‘Devilish Tour.’
This will be the first time with the new lineup, which features Rene Simionato on guitar and Mayara Puertas on vocals. “2025 will be a big year for us. We’re celebrating 10 years with this lineup, and there’s nothing more special than celebrating by returning to the biggest metal festival in the world!” commented Mayara. “Since I joined the band, it’s been my goal to take the Wacken stage, because I know how much this festival has contributed to Torture Squad’s career since they won the Battle of the Bands in 2007. Almost 20 years later, we’ll return with more energy than ever, very proud to represent Brazilian metal!”
Drummer Amilcar Christófaro commented: “I’m happy that Torture Squad is performing for the fourth time at one of the biggest metal festivals in the world, WOA. I’m also happy for Mayara Puertas and Rene Simionato for having the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of this festival together while touring one of the most important albums in Torture Squad’s career. And to our fifth member Beto Bisca, the harder we work, the more our dreams of conquering the world together grow. Wacken Open Air?? Just a warning… HELL IS COMING.”
Wacken Open Air 2025 will take place between July 30th and August 2nd and will feature Guns N’ Roses as headliner, as well as bands from different styles and generations, such as Machine Head, Gojira, Within Temptation, Saxon, and Grave Digger. Tickets are already sold out. Torture Squad will soon announce more European tour dates and continue promoting their recent album, “Devilish,” available on digital platforms and in physical form, with national distribution by Sound City Records and Valhall Music.
Torture Squad is considered by extreme music fans as one of the most visceral and powerful metal bands currently active. With nearly three decades of experience, with excellent live performances, including at the world’s most important metal festivals, the Brazilian group has built a fan base playing throughout Brazil, Latin America, and Europe.
On their second album with the new lineup, Mayara Puertas (Vocals), Rene Simionato (Guitar), Castor (Bass), and Amilcar Christófaro (Drums) maturely transcend the sound of extreme metal, incorporating progressive metal, Brazilian music influences, and symphonic elements.
The album also pays tribute to Brazilian heroes with a guest appearance by Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) on the track “Buried Alive,” and a tribute to Rickson Gracie, the resilient Jiu-Jitsu fighter considered one of the sport’s greatest legends, the subject of the track “Warrior.” The band also enlisted several musicians linked to Indigenous causes to collaborate on the song “Uatumã” – Suzane Hecate (Miasthenia), Victor Rodrigues (Tribal Scream), and João Luiz (Golpe de Estado) –, making a plea for the preservation of the Amazon in a song that flows powerfully with the words of Indigenous leader Raoni Metuktire and tribal rhythms.
“Devilish” was recorded and mixed by Diego Rocha at Bay Area Studios, and mastering was handled by Martin Fury, guitarist for Destruction and famous for working with the bands The Damnation, Invisible Control, and Eskrota.
