TORTURE SQUAD revives 80s metal with single ‘Warrior’
Postado em 22/04/2024

Torture Squad, one of the most renowned Brazilian metal bands, has released their long-awaited new album, titled ‘Devilish.’ Continuing the album’s promotion, they’re releasing a new version of the track “Warrior.” The single and music video feature Leather Leone, the iconic American vocalist, who brought the energy of 80s metal to the song. “Warrior” is a tribute to Rickson Gracie, the resilient Jiu-Jitsu fighter considered one of the sport’s greatest legends.

Mayara Puertas comments on the release:

“‘Warrior’ is a song for all the warriors of the world, inspired by the life philosophy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Rickson Gracie. This new version features Leather Leone as our very special guest, blending Heavy and Thrash Metal, sung by two female metal singers from different generations, as a symbol of struggle and resistance.”

Leather Leone will also make a special appearance at Torture Squad’s Summer Breeze Open Air Brasil show, celebrating the diversity and strength of women in heavy metal. The show will take place at the Memorial da América Latina in São Paulo on Sunday, April 28th.

On their second album with the new lineup, Mayara Puertas (Vocals), Rene Simionato (Guitar), Castor (Bass), and Amilcar Christófaro (Drums) maturely transcend the sound of extreme metal, incorporating progressive metal and influences from Brazilian and symphonic music. “Devilish” promises to shake up the Brazilian metal scene and bring new international visibility.

“Devilish” is available on digital platforms and in physical form, with national distribution by Sound City Records and Valhall Music. LISTEN TO THE ALBUM ‘DEVILISH’ HERE

The album also pays tribute to Brazilian heroes with a guest appearance by Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) on the track “Buried Alive,” and a tribute to Rickson Gracie, the resilient Jiu-Jitsu fighter considered one of the sport’s greatest legends, the subject of the track “Warrior.” The band also enlisted several musicians linked to Indigenous causes to collaborate on the song “Uatumã” – Suzane Hecate (Miasthenia), Victor Rodrigues (Tribal Scream), and João Luiz (Golpe de Estado) –, making a plea for the preservation of the Amazon in a song that flows powerfully with the words of Indigenous leader Raoni Metuktire and tribal rhythms.

As a first teaser, the band released the first single, titled “Mabus,” accompanied by a lyric video by Wanderley Perna. “Devilish” was recorded and mixed by Diego Rocha at Bay Area Studios, and mastered by Martin Fury, guitarist for Destruction and famous for working with the bands The Damnation, Invisible Control, and Eskrota.
